Google Including New Back Links?
July 30 2004 - So how long before SERPS are affected?

 11:02 am on Jul 30, 2004 (gmt 0)

I have noticed that G is showing my new backlinks but my SERPS has not altered yet.

Do I assume that the extra links are not enough to affecr my SERPS or do I need to wait for Google to update something else before it will change?

 7:34 pm on Jul 30, 2004 (gmt 0)

In new ranking update it might count credit of new backlinks to your website and improve your SERPS.

 8:58 pm on Jul 30, 2004 (gmt 0)

Please share with us where you are seeing new backlinks. Thanks in advance.

When/if Google show new or different backlinks to a site (or even update the toolbar PR), they would have already been incorporated into the SERPS. (I have seen some suggest as long as two week peviously, but I have no idea if this is correct)

I dont know what to say but i had experiance of it, In link update G has shwon abt 700 new links but theare was no change in PR, but after few week i found PR went to 5 but the number of back links was same as it was after link update.

 10:25 pm on Jul 30, 2004 (gmt 0)

The links changes and PR changes have not been happening at the same time for a while. Besides if you look around the forums you will find that many do not think the backlink function is very useful or accurate anymore.

 10:26 pm on Jul 30, 2004 (gmt 0)

Back links showing up definitely do not affect the rankings or pagerank immediately. I've had the backlink number increase dramatically with no increase in rankings for any of the keywords and no change in pagerank. Been about a month and a week now.

 11:00 pm on Jul 30, 2004 (gmt 0)

I don't pay attention to backlinks much, but I think they may have lowered the PR threshold for backlinks to show up.

 7:30 pm on Jul 31, 2004 (gmt 0)

No real change in backlinks for me.

 7:51 pm on Jul 31, 2004 (gmt 0)

One site has gone from 44 backlinks to 1250 since yesterday.

Somewhat pleasing.

Makes all the hours of work since the last update worthwhile.

Granpops, was the bl increase on any particular datacenter (if so, which one), or across the board?

 9:29 pm on Jul 31, 2004 (gmt 0)

where are you seeing this? Data center please?

 10:08 pm on Jul 31, 2004 (gmt 0)

Am in Spain, don't know which DC it is.

 11:17 pm on Jul 31, 2004 (gmt 0)

I'm still seeing the same crappy set of backlinks that came into play a week or two ago. Backlink amount stayed the same, but the displayed baclinks are low PR.

 7:58 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

Mine are updated on www. It won't affect SERPs for a while yet I don't imagine.

 8:51 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

Can some kind person that is seeing this say which god damn datacentre it is on because all I can see is the same old stuff. And there was not update a week ago it was much longer ago than that.

If we can determine that then we can all go and check.

 8:58 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

Yes, don't even bother to start these threads if you are going to keep the datacenter top secret. Don't waste others time like that.

 9:25 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

Don't jump out of your pram sunshine.

There are 100's of 1000's of webmasters out there who have no idea what a data centre is.

I happen to be one of them.

>>no idea what a data centre is

Not a big mystery, in ordinary terms they're just computers with data in different geographical locations that have "different flavored" versions of the database at different times.

 10:21 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

Hello Granpops,

Can you atleast Ping the Google.com you are accessing and post the IP address here, I dont see an update in any of the DC, It will be nice if you post some IP,

 10:36 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

I haven't seen current backlinks shown and don't really expect them to be accurate. But I did notice a ranking change yesterday indicating that they'd been re-tallied for scoring. A site of mine dropped a bit, unmistakably because of the loss of some backlinks (which I'd been expecting and watching for). They were still showing up when checking backlinks but I know they're gone and have been for several weeks.

 10:47 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

I am still seeing the absolute nonsense backlinks from the refesh a few weeks back.

 10:56 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

Me too, Jim. Same junk. But I'm seeing a slight change in the SERPs beyond normal fluctuations that's causing me to suspect there might have been something behind the scenes. Either that or it's a matter of just having spent too much time watching Google for too long.

creative craig

 11:22 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

I am not seeing any new backlinks at present for several sites. All should have an increase due, around 20 to 30 per site (I hope).

 11:30 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

A lot of things have been strange at Google lately regarding search commands, stemming, losing their own website.

I do know for a fact that they PageRank is updated in the G directory.

I had a site drop 5 to 4 due to a loss in backlinks.

 11:52 am on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

having asked what ping means..............
I am a dumb mathematician with 400 No.1's in Google. I have not the faintest idea how to do a website.

It says.........
pinging www.google.akadns.net

backlinks on that test site now gone up to 1260

May all your search terms be No.1

 12:42 pm on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

May all your search terms be No.1

No! To many people on here!

 2:06 pm on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

Perhaps GrandPops is seeing for the first time the scrambled backward links Google has been showing for about two weeks.

Nothing new here. Just the horrible new backward links set Google has been showing lately.

 2:34 pm on Aug 1, 2004 (gmt 0)

I think this is a false alarm.

I'm not doubting they saw what the claim, but Google has been mighty peculiar lately.
