>I have noticed that G is showing >my new backlinks but my SERPS has not altered yet When/if Google show new or different backlinks to a site (or even update the toolbar PR), they would have already been incorporated into the SERPS. (I have seen some suggest as long as two week peviously, but I have no idea if this is correct)

punitseo The links changes and PR changes have not been happening at the same time for a while. Besides if you look around the forums you will find that many do not think the backlink function is very useful or accurate anymore.

Back links showing up definitely do not affect the rankings or pagerank immediately. I've had the backlink number increase dramatically with no increase in rankings for any of the keywords and no change in pagerank. Been about a month and a week now.

I don't pay attention to backlinks much, but I think they may have lowered the PR threshold for backlinks to show up.

One site has gone from 44 backlinks to 1250 since yesterday. Somewhat pleasing. Makes all the hours of work since the last update worthwhile.

Can some kind person that is seeing this say which god damn datacentre it is on because all I can see is the same old stuff. And there was not update a week ago it was much longer ago than that. If we can determine that then we can all go and check.

Yes, don't even bother to start these threads if you are going to keep the datacenter top secret. Don't waste others time like that.

Don't jump out of your pram sunshine. There are 100's of 1000's of webmasters out there who have no idea what a data centre is. I happen to be one of them.

>>no idea what a data centre is Not a big mystery, in ordinary terms they're just computers with data in different geographical locations that have "different flavored" versions of the database at different times.

I haven't seen current backlinks shown and don't really expect them to be accurate. But I did notice a ranking change yesterday indicating that they'd been re-tallied for scoring. A site of mine dropped a bit, unmistakably because of the loss of some backlinks (which I'd been expecting and watching for). They were still showing up when checking backlinks but I know they're gone and have been for several weeks.

Me too, Jim. Same junk. But I'm seeing a slight change in the SERPs beyond normal fluctuations that's causing me to suspect there might have been something behind the scenes. Either that or it's a matter of just having spent too much time watching Google for too long.

A lot of things have been strange at Google lately regarding search commands, stemming, losing their own website. I do know for a fact that they PageRank is updated in the G directory. I had a site drop 5 to 4 due to a loss in backlinks.

having asked what ping means.............. I am a dumb mathematician with 400 No.1's in Google. I have not the faintest idea how to do a website. It says......... pinging www.google.akadns.net 66.102.11.99 backlinks on that test site now gone up to 1260 May all your search terms be No.1
