I am seeing backlinks updated on [126.96.36.199...]
That is where the updated pr is coming from.
I see it too!.
Now I am wondering if serps will update?.
Yes, I see that too
Pagerank also updated: 188.8.131.52
Holy mother of God. I just checked one
of my sites. Mega mega backlinks update
Hope this sticks and is not some weird
"temporal distortion in the time space
Hang on there - all the new links I can see are PR4 or less... These shouldn't be showing up in a normal link: search.
I'm seeing backlinks update on that data center - but no pr when I use that ip addy in my hosts file? Anybody see PR changes?
It's a weird one, when I first noticed it, it was from my toolbar which has had nothing changed in the settings.
Was checking other pages on my site which had all incremented by 1 then after a few pages went back to homepage - hey the PR was back to 4 and all pages I had just checked lost the 1...
yep, i changed my hosts to that ip and seeing lots of changes on many of my sites :)
Thanks alternative future - you made my day.
My PR and backlinks hav both gone up on 184.108.40.206
how do you check your pr on this particular IP , i.e. how do you set your toolbas to this ip?

By putting a static entry in your hosts file
thank you lord. Mega backlinks update and PR since most of my deep pages are PR4+ (show as backlinks). The best part? One PR8 site with tens of thousands of pages is still not showing on the backlinks. Can't wait till the next update.
Clear your Temporary Internet Files folder, visit your site, go into your Temporary Internet Files folder and you'll see an HTTP address generated by the Google Toolbar. Copy this address into your browser address bar and replace the IP addresses in the address parameters with the above Google datacenter address.

"By putting a static entry in your hosts file "
do you have a for dummies version ;)
Thank you Google...finally! I was hoping those rumors were not going to materialize when someone suggested that google may go to a quarterly update.
Do you think that we will see a dance? I'm hoping that some of my keyword phrases that have been slowly slipping in the serps will start to gain ground again.
Do a file search for "hosts". Open hosts.sam with Wordpad. Add this:
on xp it's in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc by default...
Yes, the Google directory has updated. However, one strange thing for me.
There is one category of my interest but it is showing 404. Rest seem ok. What's going on?
I don't think an update is due anytime very soon, but if we are pushing out new visible links/external PR data, then I'm happy for the folks who like to check on that. :) I hadn't been following the directory updates as closely, but I've read a couple posts where someone said that they'd seen updates related to the directory too..
You need to rename the hosts.sam file to remove the .sam extension. It will only work as hosts. (the .sam file is a sample)
"220.127.116.11 toolbarqueries.google.com "
thank you. worked perfectly
(95 to winMe)
rename hosts.txt hosts

Judging by GG's comment this data has already been incorporated into the current results.
umm.. I dont see any change in either our backlinks or our PR at the moment...
has there been a PR update or not?
ntrance, yes, definitely, but just on some of the dc's so far, like 18.104.22.168. I've just had some inner pages go from 5 to 6... very nice.
Well spotted Alternative Future and everyone else. Thanks for the info.
Trying to understand what your comment really means. And, if you are not allowed to answer these types of questions I apologize for asking.

- Does this mean that whatever people are seeing at the specified IP address, it's not going to go to the Google production databases and visible results?
- Is Google doing away with the visible links and PR?
- If visible links and PR is done away with, doesn't that make the toolbar somewhat less useful?
I don't understand this update. I have a page on my main site that I've been promoting heavily since the last update. I've been trying to get this page into the top 10 for months with no luck. I managed to get 27 new backlinks from PR5+ pages to this page so I have been eagerly awaiting this update.
This is what happened for this page with the current update:
1 - The backlinks to this page dropped from 331 to 208.
2 - The PR of this page dropped from 6 to 5.
3 - The ranking in the SERPS for the primary keyword rose from #34 to #4 out of 3.6 million results and traffic to the page has tripled.
I'm happy with #3 of course, but I'm at a loss to explain it given the loss of backlinks and PR. Any ideas?
Google is funny, one of my sites traffic has stayed the same since 5 months ago. This update my pr went up from 4 to a 6 picked up 30+ backlinks and my traffic is the same from when I started getting freshbot hits which is around 30-40 hits from google a day. I have three more sites with the same pattern pr 4-5-6 many backlinks + content and extremely low traffic.
Googleguy was there a spam filter applied to that datacenter? I'm seeing spam sites pretending to be directories taking a major hit.
