A google labs idea

Hello Folks,

I know the google folks like hearing the occasional google suggestion, and here is one that came to me over the weekend… ‘google TV’

The idea behind this is closed captioning.. almost all news broadcasts and television shows are closed captioned. It is very easy to capture this closed captioning. I have an old ATI all-in-wonder card that does this quite well… I can pick a station and it will record the captioning into a text file.

I started thinking about this on a larger scale.. If there were servers out there recording the captioning from major networks and logging them with a time stamp, you could do some interesting searches. You could search for ‘mets baseball’ or whatever, and it would show you a page with the captioning text from the latest baseball game. (yes, they caption those too).

If you really wanted to get into this, the server recording this information could also record television shows.. so you could do a search for a phrase, and the captioning text for WILL & GRACE EPISODE 128 FIRST AIRED ON 11/25/03 would come up.

Just a unique idea.

ever heard about COPYRIGHT or DMCA?

And that doesn't apply to what Google does now how? :) I'm pretty sure they freely admit that their caching system violates DMCA and you can opt out if you want to.

I think it's a good suggestion.
