Does placing google ads bring in more traffic to your site?

Not directly, but it's possible that if someone liked the site and found what they were looking for through one of the ads, if they remember your site they may come back again directly to the site another time.

Has anyone clicked one of these ads? For me, in much the same way as for banner ads, it provides me with a segment of web pages that I don't have to focus on.

I am curious about your question. Are you talking AdSense? And specifically are you asking whether AdSense improves ranking?

I can't see where AdSense would increase traffic by just having the ads on your page. You may get repeat visitors from people who found what they were looking for, as Marcia stated.

But does AdSense help a site in the SERPS? That is a totally different question.

google adwords... I used it for my site when i just started it. I had a free 25 dollar voucher for it so i tried it out.. i got 575 hits in 3 days... so to answer your question yes.. I believe they do work. But I think it depends on the key words you choose as well.

try it out ... you can set you spending limits and everything.. nothing to loose
