|Moving Hosts and Google Rank|
Does moving hosts affect google rank?
| 12:18 am on Dec 17, 2003 (gmt 0)|
I have a large site and am moving to a new dedicated data center, are there any pitfalls to be avoided so I don't get slammed in the rank?
Will an IP change cause any damage?
Your help is appreciated.

Shouldn't have any effect at all. Just make sure you upload your site to the new server before you change the nameservers with the registrar.

Keep the site/s on the old server for a week or two after the DNS change has been done, just to be sure.
Google usually finds the DNS change in under 24 hours, so in theory you could dump the old server after a couple of days, but better safe than sorry.
Cool nick, by the way. Very stoical.
