Moving web site to a new domain name

Due to a manufacturer's pressure about our domain name and our use of their trademarked names, we are being forced to transfer our current domain name to a different one.
With Google in mind, what would be the best way to transfer this domain name over? I don't want Google to think I'm running duplicate sites to get more placings or better positioning in the SERPs.

If anyone could give their opinion or a link to a past thread, that'd be great.

(I've tried searching the board for this info, but either I'm using the wrong keywords or I'm not searching the right way. :) )

TIA

It's always hard to know how to search if don't know what is is we're searching for.

If you legitimately have to give up using the domain name you could use a 301 permanent redirect from the old to the new domain. Either that, or mod_rewrite is an option and a search will bring up plenty for those.

It'll also involve getting directory listings and links changed.
