Text Link vs Banner Link
does a banner link count in same way as text link

 12:13 pm on Aug 28, 2003 (gmt 0)

I'm wondering if a link from another site to mine that uses my banner counts in same way for pr as a link from another site that uses my text link. (I am not talking about a rotating banner but one that would be static and have a link to my site as well as a link to an image hosted on my site). Thanks.

Yes, it's a link and it counts for PR.

The only downside versus a text link is that there's no anchor text for google to use in it's relevancy calculations.

Google may use the alt text, so make sure you have relevant keywords there.

I think the alt text of the image links count in the same way as anchor text does in a text link. However I think the anchor text in a text link would be worth more, of course I have no data to back this up with, just a hunch.
