PR 8 -- does it exist?
why are there no pages with PR8

Perhaps it is just a mathematical thing, but I can not think of the last time that I have seen a PR of 8 anywhere.
Sites fluctuate between 7,9 and 10, but 8? almost never?

Is this an inaccurate observation? or is there a reasonable explanation for this?

thanks in advance-
grant stevens

There are any number of sites with PR8 pages. About.com's home page is PR8, for example.

uh..oh..why my toolbar is showing a different PR of 3 for Microsoft.com? i get to see PR 8 for about.com though. Is it due to load-balancing concept?

I had a PR8 on my site until recently. I got to get it back up. It does not take much. You just need a few PR7's and PR6's pointing to you or a ton of PR4's. I know of another one but I anint telling because they got cheap advertising.

I'm sure we all have our secrets. I plan on prying some out of a few drunk bloaks in London.

There are a few busy sorts who compile PR rank lists from time to time of all the PR7-10s.

The higher ones aren't as useful as you might think since, generally speaking they will either be:

* not on topic;
* too big to be interested in linking to you from their front page; or
* both.

From the list I made up last week the top 5 are:

* yahoo
* google
* microsoft
* altavista
* adobe

All of whom would be too snooty to do a reciprocal link I would say.

I can't resist:

Yahoo will link to you, but paying 10000 different links, one for each version of them.
Google will link to you, but only certain days others link is vanished mysteriously.
Microsoft will link you, surely for free.
Altavista will link you, but nobody will see it.
Adobe will link you, but it will be text only.

Sorry :)
