Gradual decline in number of pages in index
Anyone else noticing this?

The past several months have noticed that our sites seem to be slowly losing pages in the index. Wondering what might be causing this, and is it happening in general to many other sites also?
Site #1 7/7/03 - 15200 pages, 7/22/03 - 14500, 7/29/03 - 14200, 8/16/03 - 12,200, 8/18/03 - 11800
site #2 7/8/03 - 79 pages, 7/10/03 - 74, 7/22/03 - 64, 8/19/03 - 50
We have other sites with the same pattern. Is there any thing we can do to maintain our page numbers?

Any thoughts on this appreciated.

Yes this is very true. It has happened to all my sites.
I am not sure whats the trick to get them back up.
I have noticed that sites having pr8 still have same or more number of pages indexed.

THis has started happening since the new crawl ( i.e. freshbot acting as deepcrawl) has started.

With the old month deepcrawl my number of links indexed use to increase by leaps and bounds.

I am depressed with this new crawl everything is confusing.

May be googleguy can comment on this.
