I'm having the same problem with my site. Top page went grey bout 5 days ago- now showing no backlinks. It feels like a penalty is comin on, although my SERPS havent changed... yet...

the toolbar is all over the place right now so I wouldn't worry too much yet

What do you mean? Is that indication of penalized site or not?

Don't worry too much about the grey bar. Google France got one as well :)
PS: sorry to post the same thing again, but people keep asking...

Different people are seeing different PR for the same page at the same time for the past 3-4 days. Most are seeing lower PR or none.
The ones who are seeing higher PR are celebrating. :)
Some of these sites have fewer backlinks now.

I am seeing higher PR but lower SERP's. This is crazy.

>Most are seeing lower PR
That's probably inherent in the PR alg.
The most important sites with the most and best backlinks
get a 10. G then has to use a kind of step function (maybe logarithmic, maybe something else) that does:
from a to b backlinks -> PR 10
from b to c backlinks -> PR 9
That means, since the big players are adding links by the 100s of thousands, the scale will stretch. The same "backlink power" that give you a 5 before might by only sufficient for a 4, do to re-scaling.
If I'm completely wrong about this pls. let me know - I can take it :)

Why is that crazy?
Many people have the wrong belief that high PR automatically equals high SERPs.
That is not the case as been proven time and time again. This is not a new phenomenon either. Even more so now since the value of PR appears to of been downgraded.
PR does not mean as much as it used these days.

I don't know what you think... but having my pr5 to 0 is ugly.
In the other hand, site still is being found in google's searches...
However, is site penalized or not?
Why my backlinks are gone?
I introduced some changes to my pr4 site and seems I screw it...
What of these could cause my pr down to 0?
1-Linking to subdomain with identical content but different language
2- Changing title to: keyword1 to city, keyword2 of keyword1 of city region
Using keywords this way:
key1 in city, key1, key1 of city, otherkey, key1 in othercity, city, something,
Is that harmfull because they are repeated with variations?
3-h1 and h2 used in homepage without body text

mrguy, I have no belief that high PR equals higher SERP's but in the past - about 1 year ago - when I would have a site move from say PR5 to PR6 it would really make a difference in amount of traffic from Google even if I didn't 'notice' any higher SERP's. What I meant to say by my previous post was basically that things are changing and it's not what it used to be.

No its sure not what it used to be.. I am missing all backlinks now as well.. this is insane! I have a bit of NICE new backlinks that should be showing, yet I am now showing none as of this morning! I got these backlinks 3 weeks ago.. WHAT IS GOING ON!?
PS NO reason for site to be penalized by the way.. did nothing wrong at all... nothing.
