Hi all,
This is my 1st post on this forum, and I'm relatively new at web "mastering". I got a site up a couple months ago, and just got my first peek by a google bot on Monday morning. The timing of the bot appearance is interesting but maybe coincidental that I just got two strong links to the site put up on Sunday the day before.
The problem is that it just hit and run once and hasn't been back. Didn't appear to run around at all. Just the one hit.

I have some white text on the page, but it's on a blue background, and I also have my main keyword weighted fairy heavy. I think it's about 12%.

My questions are:
1) Is it possible that white text made Google think I was hiding text? (Can it see that it's contrasted against the blue background)

2) Can 12% weight on an individual keyword run the bot off?

3) Is it normal for a first time visit by google to just peek in the door and run off for a while?

4) Am I prematurely panicking and do I just need to relax and take a good dose of patience?

Love the forum and thanks for your input,
Unca

That sounds normal.
The bot will be back.
Keep adding more links and content.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Unc!

I won't quote your 4 points as the answer is unnaffected, and half a dozen people will come in and say the same anyway - relax. Yes, you're over-reacting.

This is all normal. If you have white text against a blue background set to blue in HTML then no problem.

Google has just grabbed your index page as a result of your inbound links. It'll be back, but you need patience - getting into the index "properly" takes a little time.

You may end up with a "fresh" listing very soon and see yourself in the "index", but you're not really in the index - it's just a "fresh" listing.

You may shortly afterwards completely vanish again and want to panic - don't - this is also quite normal.

Have patience, keep working in inbound links and in a couple of months you'll start to see the real rewards.

Thanks guys,
That's just what i needed to hear, although there's always that doubt in the back of your mind that you did something wrong.
I guess I can quit checking my logs every 30 secs and get a life. Your first listing is exciting stuff!

The old "Patience is a virtue" line, sure holds true when it comes to Google.

Thanks again all,
Unca

Build it (right) and they will come.
