Hmmm, I keep on refresh but I can't see any new logo. Am I too late or I am too early?
2:38 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
Yeah, jtbell, they could recycle this one for "Google Update Day". :)
6:53 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
Yah, I like the logo too--a good message for fathers and webmasters alike. Hmm, if we did the update today, then we wouldn't need to recycle it at all. Let me go find that button. Was it the red one or the blue one?
7:09 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
That one goes quite well with my day. I was just playing with a new hammock this morning.
Has anyone on this board ever made first page for a search when you click on a google logo?
7:10 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
The red/blue button giggle was a near perfect relief valve at the end of a 4 hour drive. Now, iffin' ya go ahead and press it, it'll be a grand poppa day indeed. 8^)
7:13 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
What logo? Don't see anything special?
7:19 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
We might only be showing it in the U.S. Here it is:
7:21 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
Not seeing it in the UK - that's a pity as it's Fathers Day here too!
7:25 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
Yeah, GG, push that button! Let's do that update today!
7:35 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
7:46 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
What, only fathers day in US?! That's not fair! :)
7:59 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
That is not fair :) - I would not have gone and got the prezzie and the card if I knew that
8:01 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
I can't see it either.
I think the default page is index.html. If so then some regular visitors may have had the page cached by their ISPs so it will appear to look the same as before for a while.
8:03 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
Sorry to go off topic - but has anyone else spotted -fi
new backlinks and different SERPS?
Old backlinks and old pages still hanging around though
Also, index page penalty still seems to be evident
Dance looks on!

8:16 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
I thought that as long as www1, www2 and www3 were all the same, then there was no dance going on (regardless of differences we may see on the 9 data centers such as -fi)? Am I not understanding this correctly?
8:18 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
Yes - looks a little old in places - but does have new data as well
Think it has just not done a good job of clearing out the old stuff - 404's etc
GoogleGuy - if you're still around - still looks a little messy - lots of index pages missing - expecially on UK regional searches
ps. have tried to open a new thread for this, but is under review
8:18 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
Pre-Dominic, I woulda agreed with you
Post-Dominic, who knows.
But to me, this looks more like adding in freshbot data to me (I'd love to be wrong though, if for no reason other than to avoid 2000 posts on is it or isn't it a new hurricane)
8:21 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
This is definetly not just freshbot data coming in :).
Pre Dom - PR4 backlinks showing, during Dom no backlinks showing PR0 - now I have backlinks again ( :) ) - my PR is back :)
8:33 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
Site born in February and dropped by Dominic is back.
My major site is back on page 1 for my targetted keywords. What a relief! YEAH!
What's the official name of this update?

8:38 pm on Jun 15, 2003 (gmt 0)
Bonus points to UK_Web_Guy. :) I think we may have to change this thread name to "New Holiday Logo and Update." ;) I don't recall what name Brett and the mods were leaning toward. Last I heard, it was Esmerelda or something. :)
I've been poking through the new index myself. I found one link from April, but almost all the links I found were newer. The pages are much fresher, of course, and for all the sites I was keeping a list to check on, things looked good. After Brett slaps a name on it, I'll put out a request for feedback.
I did notice the tendency to return subpages rather than index pages for some queries. I'll check around with a few more folks than I did last time to find out if that characteristic will change over time.
Let's see, what else? I guess this index answers many of the questions about deepbot vs. freshbot. It should be pretty clear that freshbot can transform into deepfreshbot if needed. :)
I'll check around throughout the day if there are other tidbits I can help with or questions that I can answer.

Yah, I wouldn't worry too much about that though. Okay, heading over to talk about it more in the "official" thread. :)

Hey, do I get the Prescient Post award? ;)
5:50 am on Jun 17, 2003 (gmt 0)
another new logo:
Birthday of m.c. escher
Anyway I can turn off all these different logos?
7:42 am on Jun 17, 2003 (gmt 0)
A bit of irony here. I started this thread when I saw the fathers day logo after a wee bit o' grog (same as now). Only now did i realize that this was where the update was announced. Which button was it, anyway? Anyway, back on topic.
watered the garden
spent the day at the beach with the missus and the anklebiters
site was gone:(
best fathers day ever
Two days before, when pressed, I told my wife all I wanted for father's day was a backrub [www-db.stanford.edu]
8:48 am on Jun 17, 2003 (gmt 0)
That's a 404 (the backrub) :(
9:59 am on Jun 17, 2003 (gmt 0)
Have you ever noticed that everytime Google change its logo, the first website after you click that logo, is impossible to access? I can't imagine the traffic generated by Google making the website to overload.
I hope my website never comes first :)

Have you seen the guestbook at mcescher.com? at the end of the day it will be a nice resource for spammers...
