Hits initially down after update?

 2:43 am on Apr 17, 2003 (gmt 0)

I have noticed a pattern with my sites that after the Google update hits go down and then slowly rise to a peak at the end of the month before the next update starts?

Has anyone else noticed this with their site and I was wondering what the reason is.

Mine have gone up but several people are reporting that their hits coming from Google have dropped significantly.

yes we have noticed this too. Though its not a major problem. Our only guess is that we add new pages all the time, and freshy delivers us good hits on these during the month, usually higher ranked than they would be at update time.

I've noticed something after this last update, on checking my stats and page hits I can see this type of thing:

search is "blue widgets" but my page displaying blue widgets no longer appears (it used to be #3 for the past few months), however, my page for "brown widgets" does appear in about spot #10 - the only mention of blue widgets is a small text link at the bottom of the page that says "for blue widgets click here" - very odd.

traffic is down about 35%.

I haven't noticed that pattern on my site. I've had a slight drop in the last day or two, compared to Monday's near-record traffic, but that's probably because it's Easter week.

Yep, a slight drop because of (pre)Easter and gourgeous weather.

If I can drive to my office without traffic jams, my visitor stats will be down. You can't have it all..

I have this statistically totally unrepresentative visitor number algo:

For every content page I add, I get 1,5 uniques a day extra.

Usually updates meant a rise in visitors, now freshbot/indexing makes things even out.

Google referals seem normal on my site. Traffic generally is down a bit last day or so (and probably through the weekend), but that has more to do (imo) with some seasonal factors unique to my target audience.

I've noticed the same pattern the past few months, traffic grows to peak right before the dance and it seems it starts over, I also think it's freshbot related.

Traffic for one of our sites is down 50/55% after the dance.. Strangly business has been steady - odd concequence I guess of which search terms we're still getting traffic for..

 3:27 pm on Apr 17, 2003 (gmt 0)

I have noticed that my site gets less referrals from Google during the dance. But, due to a slight increase in rank that put me on the first page referrals went up about 50% as soon as it ended.

Normally, if there is not a signifigant change like that I notice a faily steady stream of about 1000 or so people a day coming from G.

Weird here too...we had a site go from page three on Google to high on page one, after last update. Result: NO increase in traffic. Business steady. I'm hoping that it's the weather and Easter, as already suggested. Think I need a vacation...

Since the war began my big site was down a little. I added two war related articles on a small site of mine and visitors were way up. In fact once article drew more visitors than the homepage. Thanks to Googles fresh bot these new articles were listed within a couple of days.

My sites are geared to women and I find a dip during holiday seasons and on weekends. I also have less visitors in the summer.

I'm not sure any of it is related to the Google update though.

Had a steady increase from month to month, with just a small dip the week the war started.

Post update we have seen around 10% more traffic and each day has been breaking the previous's record.
