Multiple Domain Names
One realname.com, the other realname-keyword.com

SE's seem to give a lot of weight to keywords in the domain name. But these often get ugly, and besides, you dont' always have the option to change them.

So what about using the real domain name privately, and using realname-keyword.com for the SE? (Keeping all internal links relative).

And what would be the preferred name for external links?

This is quite a common strategy for many companies to have a company domain name, and then to have a domain that is keyword laden (especially in competitive areas).

This method is not necessarily the purest form of SEO, but it does work well. On the other hand, if you work at building up your company domain with quality content and a number of quality inbound links, the same end result can be accomplished.

I'm talking about the two names resolve to the identical site.
