Resubmitting the same page
Arghh data overload

I have always been very shy of resubmitting a page to the search engines, in case it loses its listing. However in some cases it might not be a bad thing - if I can get the listing back at a later date.

So how often (if at all) should I resubmit pages to search engines? And with which engines should resubmission be avoided?

All the best

P.S. How do I get those smiley faces to appear on posts!

For SE's like Google, you do not have to submit the site at all.....just wait for Googlebot to come and wait to be indexed.

For SE's like Alta Vista, I would re-submit anytime that I make major changes, that would affect the ranking of my site.

If, in your own opinion, it won't affect the ranking or positioning of your site, then why resubmit?

There is of course link popularity. If your site has picked up a number of friendly links then resubmitting may be useful. If the search engine reevaluates the page then it may rank based on the new number of external links even if your own page has not changed.

P.S. :) many thanks

Most of the time the SE's will pick up on this without you needing to re-submit.....but sometimes it is necessary.
