How do SE's react to .shtml pages?

I have been considering using a banner rotator and it appears that the best solution is to use .shtml pages. Has anyone had a long term experience with the acceptance of .shtml pages by search engines?

I don't know of any that would penalize the pages for it.

If you're the paranoid type (like me) or you don't want to announce to the world that you're using SSI, you can of course direct your server to use .htm or .html pages as server parsed in your .htaccess file.
