Domain names that get SE priority

I want a domain name for a large UK charity that is: a national alliance of organisations with a membership of over 120 charities which support children, families and individuals affected by certain medical conditions.

I read somewhere that .edu gets a boost in Google's algo (although .edu isn't right for this situation). Is there a domain that is right for the charity - and that gets an algo priority?

is .org.uk the best and most appropriate option?

possibly .org for maximum effect, as uk makes the domain regional, though it is still competing in the big se's with none regional domains, with international directory listings and whatever else.

hence a .org would give you an even keel to get up the search engines in both UK and International engines.

IŽd consider buying .org plus .org.uk, and perhaps .info as well. Leaves you with all possibilities open for future plans - doing a UK site plus an international directory or other "outsourcing" of content.
