Fraud/spam email from 'domain buyer'

 4:53 pm on Oct 22, 2004 (gmt 0)

Just received an email from a guy claiming to to be called Michael Murphy who just invests spare money into domain names, like mine.

Would like to buy and has offered $600, catch one I have to have it valued by xyz.com domain valuations so he can confirm the valuation at a later date.

Told him to have it valued and then Id knock the cost off of the purchase ;>

Somehow I dont think Ill hear from him again.

Anybody else receive these?

Yes it's a scam.
They try to get you to buy appraisals and never buy domains.

and that 600 carrot dangling has worked on a lesser mind more than a time or three.

It's just a small time version of the distraught chap in Nigeria, the one with access to an abandoned 40 odd million, and if only there was just some kind person who could share their banking details, the funds could be spirited away.

Peeps bite on that carrot every year. $$ do weird things to some minds.

Hello Kevinpate:

I think the chap in Nigeria has opened a branch office in Senegal. The spam filter in Firefox catches most of those on the second pass if not the first. Somewhere,
I read about a guy who went along with all this. There was a meeting set up in Holland. Very interesting. I can't remember if the victim was a cop or not, but it sounds like a sure-fire sting if so!

Best - Larry
