Setting up a new site, due to launch at the end of the month. We set it up so that it checked the users IP, and if it's one of the development team, we see the site, and if not, you see a "coming soon" page instead.
But then I wondered if Google might send a spider over (because the developers are running Google Toolbar), get the holding page, decide it's seeing something different to us, and ban us before we even launch.
I suspect this couldn't happen (as Google wouldn't know it was seeing something different to us) - but I've decided to be paranoid, and develop on a different domain, just in case.
What's the expert view on this?
