Question from a novice....How do I do this?
about serving data to affiliates...

Hi all,

I need as much information as possible on the below subject.

Scenario:

I want to build a website that accomplishes two main objectives. First, it will be an ecomm site selling physical and digital products on it's own. This I can handle. Secondly, and where I need help, is I want to be able to allow affiliates to hook into my "system" in order to sell my products on their own sites. I want something similar to what real estate sites are using in that there is a central database of listings (products, in my case) that these sites all hook up to. They serve their own pages and use the back-end from my server holding the listings (products) to serve them up. It would need to be transparent as to where the back-end stuff is served from (so it looks like it's all done on the affiliates site). They would need to be on a per-sale commission, and I would need to be able to track every transaction and all affiliate info.

I've looked into the simple affiliate scripts out there but they aren't sophisticated enough.

So.... what are your suggestions for creating & implementing this?

Also, what platform do you suggest?

I'm willing to do as much research as necessary as well as to learn any languages or test out any scripts. Please point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

If I had to implement something like this, then I'd look into using XML-RPC [xmprpc.org]. This information is probably too low-level to immediately solve your problem, but it might at least give you a keyword to look out for.
