any evidence to suggest higher conversions?

Just wondered if anybody had any experience of using a live chat/support function on an ecommerce website.
And if so, was the experience positive - i.e. higher browse-to-buy conversion rates?

My first thought is that its success and value would depend on how complex (or new) the product is?
