Hi all!

I read an article on an italian NET magazine explaining that some very common programs like GetRight and CuteFTP install a spyware on your computer.

The installed file is advert.dll that operates every time you are connected to internet, monitoring everything during the connection.

The magazine suggest to install a program called OptOut

http://grc.com/optout.htm

to eliminate advert.dll

Before doing this I would have a comment from you!

There are several spyware. Here a partial list (check in your computer... :-):

adimage.dll
advert.dll
amcis.dll
amcis2.dll
anadsc.ocx
anadscb.ocx
htmdeng.exe
ipcclient.dll
msipcsv.exe
tfde.dll
tadimage.dll
Ttsad.dll
vcpdll.dll
FlexActv.dll
tsadbot.exe

You are right!

In fact I didnt't check it.

It seems that the new program is:

http://www.lavasoft.de/aaw/aaware.html

Before doing anything I would know other experiences.

It seems that removing the spyrware automatically, some programs like CuteFTP would not work properly (they will be searching the adware.dll file before loading).

I am using CuteFTP, so that I am waiting suggestions.

Some personal experiences with spyware and some reactions to AdAware from LavaSoft here [webmasterworld.com]...

Some alternatves to CuteFTP here [webmasterworld.com].

I like the LavaSoft program a lot. The price is certainly right.

Found a program that rips this stuff out. You can run it several ways depending on your preferences...
