Price levels / Shipping charges / Conversion rates

 4:17 am on Dec 3, 2002 (gmt 0)

He guys, I have a conversion ratio of 272:1 as of right now for low-end gifts (check the site in the profile).

From a profit point of view, I make about 3 cents per visitor.

That seems to be really low. One of the reasons is the structure of the site. I haven't had time to really organize the merchandise into categories and index them all for the internal search. That hurts me a big deal.

But apart from that, in you experience, how does lowering of shipping charges and/or increasing or item prices affect amount of sales?

I'm considering the following combinations right now:
- lower s/h charge, increase item prices
- lower s/h, leave item prices as they are

Thanks for any info.

Unless price is a major isue I would recommend the first option. People are stupid and happy when they think that they are getting something for free.

What's the average conversion ratio for low-ticket items?
