You think a competitor hired some hackers for a denial of service attack? :)

Well a competitor would have to be an obvious suspect, but on another hand, the way they treat their customers -it could well be a current client *_*
(or maybe a client they have chosen to 'let go')

2CO are down and have been for over 12 hours now. No orders and people have been contacting me saying they are trying to order but can't!
I can't believe this is happening again. When are they going to get this one sorted out? The whole site is down so we can't even get into their forums for further info. And as usual, not even one email from them! :-(
<added> Did yesterdays payments happen? </added>

They've been down about 36 hours now, not 12. I managed to log in once that whole time, after a hefty delay. They said in their sellers area that they had managed to "clear the pipes" this time pretty well, but that their upstream provider was getting hit by a DDoS attack. That's the only connection I've made in the last 36 hours. No sales are getting through, no email, no homepage, no nothing.

I have dozens of accounts with 2checkout.com, some dating back to when they went live. For some time I have seen their system and service going very much downhill.
What if I told you of a company with a system that did everything 2checkout.com does, but also provides the option of weekly deposits. A company that has the infrustructure in place to handle DDoS attacks and provide seemless uptime? Lower percentage/fee? An intuative website design? Real customer service reps?

I know this is little comfort for right now, but for future protection, it's not very hard to code a checkout using PayPal as an alternative payment. Look into their "cart upload" system which lets you just dump your item list over. Then you can have multiple ways of checkout, and having a PayPal account sitting around costs you absoluting nothing and never expires (and has never been taken out by a DDoS attack).

We don not use 2checkout but have received email from one of there competitors (mentioned on this page) saying 2checkout was not serving our pages correctly and promoting their own service. Prime spamcop candidate of course.
Not saying their competitors have anything to do with the attacks, some are certainly taking full advantage of the situation. Also saw some adwords ads promoting a "2checkout alternative".

I got onto 2checkout just now. IMO, when you own a chunk of marketshare, as a company you come to know who experts are before you impliment tactics. Here's their latest message:
November 29, 2003: Update - Current DDoS Attack
The current attack is slowing sales and server response. We are working hard to rectify the issue. We are disappointed that the additional safeguards that were put in place in response to so called experts and our ISPs opinion have not been effective. No down time is acceptable. We are continuing to work diligently arround the clock.

I am getting 400 bad request when trying to access the site
| 1:50 am on Dec 1, 2003 (gmt 0)|
I have the same problem. With the added trouble of being in a country outside PayPal action range (most countries are).
I am analyzing other solutions, like ikobo, moneybookers, paysystems and others.

I am not getting e-mails although payment is shown as accepted on the web site. So, please check your "Sales Activity" screens as the e-mail may never make it to you.

as of 09:47 GMT I can access the admin pages and the purchase pages.
| 10:53 am on Dec 1, 2003 (gmt 0)|
I'm able to log into the admin area as of 10:51 AM GMT, and much to my surprise several sales have actually gone through! :-)
I was expecting to get nothing out of this weekend. Anyway, WorldPay have a Christmas promotion on which looks very enticing.
