IE6 eats the last history entry
when it interfaces with MS Word

I just ran into a bug that I'd love to work around. I have one site that uses many RTF files linked to page for download and printing. If you left click on the link, IE6 opens MS Word inside the browser window to display the RTF file, treating the file just like a web page.

But now, when you click the back button, you don't return to the page you were on previously, you go back two pages instead. The original page seems to vanish from the history list. I believe that Explorer previously just spawned a separate window for Word.

I've thought about making these downloads into PDF's. But the RTF format has been a good solution for this site for many years. The documents are mostly public domain, and RTF lets people use them freely in many ways. Plus, I hate to think of converting all those files.

Any other ideas on how to keep my visitors out of trouble here?
