Newbie, help with error '80040e14'

 4:14 pm on Jan 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

I try to access a website and I get this error,

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server][SQL Server]Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '='/playerMenu.asp, line 17

I've been using a computer for seven months, though I'm a newbie I can get around on my system but I need help with this error. I've read other threads but can't seem to find a solution to my problem or its because I'm new at this. Any help would be great!

I try to access a website

is this one of YOUR websites?

if not, then its not your problem.

if it is, maybe ask in the asp forum.

It means there is a problem with that website. Unless it's your site it's not your issue.

Is there anything I can tell this company to do that will correct this?

No, it's something within one of that pages that's not publically visible that's the cause - just email them saying which page you were using and which error message was displayed and hope they get around to fixing it.

I've talked to the company that has this web sight and they are able to go to my web page without a problem. I used another computer and had no problem getting to the page I needed. This is not a live or die situation, but knowing there is something wrong with my computer is agrevating me. The web sight is; <sorry , no specifics> - when I log in and try to go to my winnings page, I get the error.

Anyone have a clue why my computer is screwed up?

Welcome to the forums, Zoro.

That's a database error on their website, not on your computer. Somehow they are not picking up the right information from your browser - and my bet is that their programming is off and will fail for a certain percentage of all computers, not just yours.

That error does NOT mean there's something wrong with your machine - it's a report back from their server, specifically from their database that stores user records.

You might try downloading a new browser (say FireFox if you are currently using Explorer) and see if you can get the page that way.

Thanks Tedster

I downloaded Firefox, problem solved.
