Whenever I go to a tripod website the search sidebar in IE opens with various tripod links. How can I stop this opening automatically?

Have you tried scanning for spyware?

That is an ad Tripod serves up while you surf their sites. It's not spyware or a viruses. Norton's web assistant may be able to block those ads if you insall it.

Windows - Internet Explorer

Tools > Options > Security > Restricted Sites

Click Sites and add [*.tripod.com...] to the list.

If your "Restricted Sites" security has been changed from the default, go into the settings and disable java.

<edit>
I actually have everything "disabled" in the restricted zone - so you might have to try some of the others as well.
</edit>
