onClick & anchor tags

We have pop ups on the index page of a few sites (for email newsletters).

In order to prevent the popups from popping up in the other pages of the site, we use a javascript that is called for with an onClick in each of the href tags throughout the index page.

Is there a way to prevent the popups when going to another page in the site AND NOT put the onClicks inside the href tags?

Any ideas would be appreciated (apart from nuking the pop ups - can't do that - clients' orders :)

How about calling the pop-up function onUnload for the index page.
