Embarassing that major sites don't validate

Go to [htmlhelp.com ] and validate the home page of the 10 top web properties, listed below. The results are embarassing. Not a single one of these site validated without a glitch. Most do not have a DTD specified. What is so hard about validating that these sites can't do it? Is there some technical reason not to validate? Someone explain it to me.

It's ironic that webmasterworld.com itself doesn't validate. Try it:


That said, it looks great and works well on IE, Netscape and Opera.
