When to start a new affiliate microsite

My site widgets.com is doing very nicely on affiliate sales. I want to offer a new service offering PolishWidgets. Now, most of my visitors on widgets.com aren't interested in PolishWidgets - many wouldn't even know they existed and would find it strange to have a section of widgets.com devoted to them - it would be like MSN offering a link to Roy's second hand cars on their home page.

Do I use the obvious advantage of traffic already going to widgets.com or do I build a new site specially for PolishWidgets and hope a less prominent link from widgets.com will do the trick in driving interested traffic?

A whole new site would mean another listin in Yahoo and ODP etc then you could have a cross link between the two. If the two types of widgets are essentially unrelated and your current customers would find it kinda strange then I think you've answered your own question there :)

I single understated link would help to pass PR to your new site and get it rolling sooner as well.
