Instead of the straight-edged 468x60 rectangle, play around with irregular edges. I have one banner that has a "torn" or jagged edge, other than that, it is decidedly unspectacular. It's CTR is about 1.6 on run of network. I assume that the surfers have tuned out the "standard" shapes and this one just catches their eye.
