Why your Chitika CPM is dropping
Removal of unsupported clicks on a daily base

A blogger complained about much lower CPMs with Chitika since the start of December and he got an e-mail from Chitika's CEO, Venkat Kolluri, regarding this issue.

He says Chitika made a few adjustments to make the difference between the unaudited and audited stats smaller. Since December 1st they now immediately remove clicks from unsupported countries.

The blogger replied to Venkat's e-mail stating his revenue dropped over 50% in December, while his earnings only dropped 15% from the unaudited to the audited numbers.

Ventak didn't answer his question directly but he explained Chitika is seeing a lot of fluctuations in the CPCs, CTRs and CPMs since they started integrating a variety of merchant feeds from Europe.

Ventak also said Chitika is working on optimizing the ad units to find a right balance between varying CPCs across feeds from multiple regions and maximize overall eCPM and speed up the auditing process.

---

Since Chitika introduced the geo targeting I'm noticing the same. My revenue has dropped a lot, Chitika is still profitable for me but I'm quite disappointed. In October the eMiniMalls made me about twice as much as AdSense but now the revenue from Chitika is about 10-15% lower than my AdSense earnings.

By the way, I find it quite strange Chitika didn't send out an e-mail or posted this on their blog..

Really? I guess they thought there had been enough bad news about Chitika lately.

I read the same email.

Do you think with the December 1st changes, "what we're seeing is what we're getting" for the most part?

As I've said in other threads, I've stuck with Chitika but will not if I take huge 40-70% cuts like others because then I'll be losing money. If the December figures are a more accurate representation of what I'm actually making, I'll be adding more Chitika ads to my site instead of reducing it since learning of some of the huge cuts.

I haven't been audited yet and must wait until the end of the month. Audit days for Nov. and Dec. will be THE days of reckoning!

They really need a good PR person!

".....Do you think with the December 1st changes, "what we're seeing is what we're getting" for the most part?....."

I hope so Digicam, since december 1st my clicks are about 15 percent down from november.

I can live with those figures as only 85-80 percent of my traffic is u.s based. However I took a 45 percent hit on the last audit.

Still this is a step in the right direction from Chitika.

You'll know in just 2 months.

Do you think it will be worth the wait?!

Did anyone notice that their Average Cost Per Click is dropping too. For me,it's between a 10-25 cents drop. Then when we get audited and possibly slashed 50-70%?!?!?!? No recent updates at the Chitika blog about any of this.

Can't help but wonder how they're going to fare after the Christmas holidays. Anyone else concerned?

As an aside, no much chatter a WebmasterWorld about Chitika any more...Wonder if most have stopped using it.

Chitika has posted a new message on their blog.

Updated reporting process: During the first week of December, we made some enhancements to our daily reporting system. Key changes:

Daily filtering of clicks from countries currently not supported in the eMiniMalls program: Instead of waiting till the end of the month for the audit process to filter out non-revenue earning clicks from unsupported countries, we are now filtering out those clicks from the daily reports. Please note though that daily reports are for directional purposes only. The final revenues are calculated after the audit process that takes into consideration factors like click fraud, merchant feedback, merchant chargebacks, etc. Our goal is to continue enhancing the reporting process as much as possible and decrease the differences between the daily and monthly (post audit) stats.

Faster daily updates: You can expect to see a faster turn around time for the daily reports.

Expansion into Europe:
Following our expansion into UK, we have now begun phased testing of regional merchants listings in the following countries: France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Norway, Sweden, and Netherlands. With geo-targeting in place, we are now able to display regional promotions and offers to visitors from Europe.

I'm surprised by the faster daily updates, I just checked my account and it was updated about 8-9h earlier than usual.

I'm really pleased with the update.

Yesteday, I wrote a personal email to Venkat Kolluri...and my major question was addressed in their most recent Blog entry. I was very forthright in what I said about why I have stayed with Chitika, my current concerns and reasons I would drop them or, alternatively, add more of their code to my site.

I ended my email by asking them to keep publishers like me better informed:

"Please do provide more information to those of us who have stuck with Chitika."

The final revenues are calculated after the audit process that takes into consideration factors like click fraud, merchant feedback, merchant chargebacks, etc.

It's interesting how they keep adding to the list about what's involved in reducing revenue via the audit. However, that's not the main point. Publishers deserve a fairly accurate picture of their daily income. No one will stick around for long if their expected revenue is subject to drastic cuts, when those cuts render Chitika income less than if we had left ads for AdSense or Yahoo Publishers Network in place.

Just turned my Chitika ads back on to see if there is any improvement between now and the end of the month. They hadn't been doing squat before.

Its worth learning about this to be DIVERSIFIED - you can't put all of your eggs in one basket

Even if a program pays a bit less - you should learn about it and test it . . .

This is my first month by Chitika and it is looking very promising. However I am waiting for the final audit to happen.
