Only from the pic on [sp.ask.com...] They have email this page to a friend...that's a great idea.

Better than the smiley, if a lot of people email a page to a friend, I'd give it a better indication of being a good site then clicking the smiley.

Either way, I'd love to see this feature on googlebar.

It could also be misused - get high in the rankings by spam emailing your site!

but so could the smiley face -- right?

Same IP -- same person, not recorded.

Here, Here...

Hey, someone used the word GoogleGuy in a sentence. I'm sure that'll attract him ;)

you can spam with the smiley face?

I always assumed that 1 click per IP would be all that registered - seems it would be too easy to abuse.

I must confess i have pressed the button twice, or even three times on occaisions i didnt notice the "your vote has been sent to google" message. :) is that spamming? :)

This feature is in testing; for now, you will not see any immediate effects by voting for or against a page.

Sorry JOAT, no impact ;)

And it won't work for things like dynamic search result pages or on sites with session ID's...

jackofalltrades, one click will do nicely. :)

Do you really think that the email-a-friend button is that useful? I'm not completely convinced yet. On the same subject, are there any other features that you'd really like to see in the toolbar?

>Features on the toolbar

A readme about how google algortithms work and reasons for/against

Apart from that I guess it would be cool to get topic-specific news warnings on the toolbar, now that you have all that automated news flying through google ;)

They should extend the PR features to show if the site has been penalized, what for, and how long :)

I sometimes email pages to folks, but I don't know that would be a good thing in terms of ranking relevancy.

<<On the same subject, are there any other features that you'd really like to see in the toolbar?>>

...I would like to see a red button on the Toolbar labeled "Kill." Punch button, site vanishes from the index. I believe all of us here would find such a feature to be most useful. ;)

"Punch button, site vanishes from the index."

Not bad. Something more palatable might be:

Punch button, site vanishes from my search experience, personalized spam filter.

hmmm...how about "turn off ads"....just kidding!

What I liked about emailthis.com was that I have 3-4 people I email pages to regularly and it should have been ez to select from those names in the addressbook. 2bad it didn't work that well. But it's true I don't see that much functionality (address book) fitting in w/ the google toolbar. (I also agree on the link 2 the page...especially w/ a backup to the cached page in case the page disappears in the meantime :) )

Features I'd like:

1. news search (I guess it will come).
2. much smaller google icon. Maybe just the "G"? I really tweak the hell out of what's on my top bars and it's cramped :)
3. Submit URL (unless that's really just a page done to humour us and no page gets indexed that isn't linked from another page, as someone here suggested to me)
4. list of links on the page (like IE webtools used to do)
5. List of images on a page (like IE used to do)
6. Date of url creation
7. Check box to turn on & off opening search in new page. Sometimes I curse myself for setting my google preferences to open in the same page. But when I switched to new page I would sometimes curse myself for setting it that way.

There was one thing I remember wanting but I can't remember. Hate when that happens.

Hmm - wasn't this thread about the TEOMA toolbar originally...? ;)

Ah, what the heck, might as well throw in some more: I'm really waiting for Fast to do a toolbar with some of those brillant advanced search functions they offer at ATW! IP search, backlink search, and their leading news search, to name a few.

OT me too..

Features I'd like:

- Ranking of HTML code [-> clean efficient crossbrowsers?ack..only-IE-exists..:(]
- Elapsed time in msec. for Googlebot to fetch the page.

Additional pros of these features: prozac resellers enjoying WW members-lurkers huge increase in abuse of.. :)

I'd like to be able to save my favorites to the Google toolbar. All I would have to do when I log onto a friends machine, is download the Google toolbar, login with my profile, and then whala my favorites are there, easily accessible - on my favorite toolbar :-)

Mac compatibility would be nice

actual features as heini suggested plus sub-search within the search results displayed (e.g. where is this page? - quick go to)

Good suggestions, all. I'll make sure that our toolbar folks check this thread out. BTW, I just found out that IE6 can email a page to a friend with File/Send..

Keep the ideas coming, this is a fun thread. :)

I like the favorites thing, it'd be cool if you could access those favorites w/o downloading the toolbar just by going to my.google.com ;)

Ahem, although that may not make everyone happy :)

But in truth I think that's probably beyond the scope of the toolbar.

RE: ie file send, I stay away from microsoft email clients and their #@$#@ email button (they have one too) and file send don't work for me...

I would like to see Google have some sort of traffic estimations, similar to Alexa. I do not like their toolbar, but I put in because it gives me more information (although somewhat innaccurate). Plus I don't think Alexa toolbar users serve as good sample space compared to all Google toolbar users, so I would trust Google's numbers much more.

Google could use the anonymous data collected of traffic behaviour from the toolbar to feed the datbase of traffic estimates for each site. I am sure they are doing this already. ;)

Sites that do not want to be "ranked" could opt out somehow.

Somewhat unrelated, but I would also like to see Google come out with it's own browser (with toolbar features and much more) all integrated. They could put all their news in a side bar, put image search somewhere, the possibilities would be endless.

And we would all come to expect a high level of quality and speed with Google's browser.

I think it would be a perfect extension to Google's technology and a way of creating some REAL competition with Microsoft's browser and near-monopoly of instant messaging and other related online products/services.

john316 made an excelent point about personalising your search.

I would love to be able to click on a remove link and have the page made invisable on my serps until the database has updated.

Googleguy,

could you add a toolbar for MS Outlook Express, which could let me search my email folders with the Google speed and accuracy?
Last but not least it would be fun for you guys to make such a pun at Microsoft.:)

Add a variable button for proximity of search.

For a search query: blue fuzzy widgets

0% would probably mean pages ranking highest for blue (one word) would turn up No1

100% would mean searching for "blue fuzzy widgets" as containing that exact phrase
(but not having to add the " ")
