I've just joined so I guess I'm part of your problem? So to add to the solution, I suggest a two tiered system. 1. BANNER FREE: For those who have money (and hate banner ads) can pay an annual fee to stop the ads and... 2. FREE: For those who haven't the money (or live in 3rd world countries like me -- Australia) who could let the advertisers pay for them in exchange for the advertisers subjecting the visitors to their blinking... flashing... pulsating, mind-altering methods of persuation? Would this be technically possible: 2 types of access where one type brings up banner ads (for newbies/lurkers) and the other access type doesn't?

third world Australia?! I have not read all 15 pages but as it has come up, I do not know why adverising should be such a bad thing, and subscription. But if you do go for subscription please make sure that everyone everywhere can join not like your present system of using paypal where people in Thailand cannot even join even if they wanted to.

Thank you everyone for the feedback and input - it has been invaluable in charting a course. For now, there is the donation system [webmasterworld.com] (shhh, soon to be subscription system) that enables usage of the private member forum(s). So, this thread is getting dated, and I think it's time we lock this one. If you have any more input on the subject, feel free to start a new thread and link back to this one. -bt
