Thank you for the continued patience and latitude. Rome wasn't built in a day. This is such a complete underneath rewrite of the core code, that we actually expected more problems. There have been no mission critical problems or major glitches.

Known Issues:
Tips:
- I'm getting logged out! If you are having to relogin all the time, go to your profile and increase the number of days that cookies last.

- caching issues! with some browsers (not a bug) - webmasterworld does NOT disable browser caching. It is entirely up to you and your browser to disable caching if you choose.

The caching issue is new because we have eliminated all randoms strings that were previously used in some dynamic urls. Everything is now pure .htm extensions.

(note: I'll update this list, as they are fixed, and found).

Fixes:

I've got an odd little thing - the site search page errors out on one PC I use, apparently when it tries to load a burstnet ad. It even breaks my back button. On another PC, I just see a "can't load page" message but the search function is visible and usable.

I have trouble with a lot of the colors when there is a yellow highlighting (as in "updating the thread" or in sticky mail). Bascially, the highlighting seems to make it impossible to read whatever text is there (Opera 6.0).

Foo posts dont count? Wow maybe I am not crazy then. I knew a made a few more posts than it was giving me! They where all in FOO I guess.

Also every morning on my work machine I have to delete cookies exit browsers and then relog in. I dont have this issue at home though. At work I am running on W2K with IE 5.5. If I log in before dumping the old cookies it logs me out as soon as I try to go to any part of the forum. I can not leave the the page or I get loged out.

I am having a strange problem. I made a post and the date placed it two days prior. I noticed it with another post that posted after me in a different forum. It didn't bring the post to the top of the forum because the date was old.

<added>Now it fixed itself. I must be losing my mind.</added>

>I made a post and the date placed it two days prior.

That would probably be a caching issue. I'm using s-maxage instead of no cache. I've got it set to a minute(?) in order to over ride some browsers that reload on back button with no cache. What browser you usings?

Bascially, the highlighting seems to make it impossible to read whatever text is there (Opera 6.0).

You mean the status line? Hmmm, what could I do to make that easier to read for you? It is standard black text, on a yellow table row background.

You can change that color by editing your skin. Go to:

-> click control panel (from top menu bar)
-> click edit skin
-> click on the General tab
-> edit the color for "status bar"

I'm still looking at the issue of login. I was really surprised that a few were having troubles. Cookie code is always, fix it for one browser and break it for another.

I'm going to do something different with the login tomorrow and see if that cures this rare problem.

Cookies must be enabled to use WebmasterWorld.

Quickly scanned to see if this had been posted but couldn't see anything.

When I click the [-] next to 'the webmaster world' category it collapses but there are suddenly about 20 of them.

I had the same one as joshie76 in mozilla 1.0, IE 6.02 and Opera 6.03 this morning.

Is it supposed to do that?

<added>I also subscribed to email notification for scripting and html forums and then unsubscribed but it didn't unsubscribe me but they are unchecked in the subscriptions section.

Weird little thing,

when viewing a user's profile in moz 1.0 and ie 6, the white area containing their info is left aligned while the top bar and nav bar are still centered. It started happening yesterday afternoon sometime.

<added>my previous comments were fixed thx Brett

Well my log in issue is not completely fixed. I do have to clear cookies now for it to allow me to log in. Luckly for me I decided to put a clear cookies link in the personal code section so I can clear before it kicks me back out then I can log back in.

Same on Opera/Mac... the profile content box is left aligned.

OTOH, today is the first time I have seen the main content tables centered... previously, the top navbars would be centered, and the primary content table (for category views, thread views, etc.) would be left aligned for me.

I'll take misaligned profiles over an entire mis-aligned site any day. ;)

ok, so i view profiles a lot.

something weird is happening with the email addresses. They seem to change all the time. I keep getting these weird telus (regional provider) spam@ and abuse@ addresses coming up.

I don't know why.

It's to prevent automatic harvesting of profile URLs. There have been many instances where wmw mods and members have all received the exact same stupid spam mail within a 6 hour period of time... suggesting that the profile emails had been collected, and used as a mailing list.

So now it's not so easy to do that, without someone spamming their own ISP abuse address. ;)

Didn't see this mentioned, but my "new message" icon never disapears (IE6.0). Isn't it supposed to vanish after I have read the post? However, I am using a custom icon so there may be the glitch... and I have cleared cache and reloaded the page ;)

It only disappears after you manually click "reset pointers".

OK - I clicked that and all the new message icons vanished from the thread. I was thinking only the messages that I had actually read should loose the new message icon, and the ones I haven't read should keep the icon untill I open them. Is this not what was intended? Or maybe I am misunderstanding, thanks.

One thing I miss is the ability to flag a post at the top of a message. Sometimes I like the first few posts, but don't have time to read the whole message and want to flag it without scrolling to the bottom - users are lazy, as I am proof! ;)

I would also like to see the forum email subscription available in a digest format. I love the addition of the last 4 active posts in the email as well.

Thanks for the hardwork-

Minor time zone issue: it works fine except for the "edited by" line when a post has been edited after posting (shows up as UTC).

(This post edited just to show you what I mean!)
Ok, I'm confused. I posted then edited - but no edited message?
FYI, when you submit from the edit screen it returns you to the first page of the thread instead of the page you were on.

Maybe the "edited by" only shows up if someone else (i.e. moderator type) does the editing? That was the situation when I orginally noticed the problem.

For example, the third post on this thread:

dcheney, the "others" edits show but when I edit my own, it won't show if it's the last post in a thread, but it will show my own edit notation on a post if someone else has done a post after.

Editing this after doing the following post.

Test post.

Now editing this post (edit 1).

Second edit here (edit 3), after doing the edit on the previous post (which was edit 2), which shows the notation since there was a post afterward. But neither of the 2 edits here show any notation because it's now the last post in the thread.

{It would be nice if it came back to the current post after editing instead of the very beginning of the thread, part 1.)

Thanks Marcia,
Your post (2 back from this one) shows the "edited by" line with the date/time in UTC instead of using the user's time zone.
Thanks!

Brett, sorry it took so long to respond. I missed your post. Anyway, the problem for me is primarily with the text that is written dynamically as when the thread is updating after I post. It says something like
"Updating thread ...." where the ... is just white background with no actual text. There are some other places I've seen it, but I can remember. It happens fast, but if you want I could try to do a screen capture and send it to you.

Brett,

I managed to get a screen capture. Having trouble posting the URL, since "W"M"W" expands to WebMasterWorld automatically. Delete spaces from second URL if necessary

Capture gotten. Thanks.

Ya, the board translates the the initials into the full name due for legal reasons (we can't use the initials).

New one of little importance now...
I tried posting some Japanese in this thread [webmasterworld.com] with Opera 6.04 and the Japanese came out as question marks ??? after posting. Somehow the encoding got messed up in the submit process. If I enter the same Japanese with IE, it goes thru fine. (You have to manually set your browser to view Japanese encoding and it comes out fine).

Might be an issue if you make multilingual versions of this board available in the future.

Yet another buglet...

When posting to a long thread, the posting page has a summary of the previous postings, with an "overflow" gap. The message numbers after that gap are all one lower than they should.

For example, this message is Nr. 61 of the thread, but will be listed as Nr. 60 on the posting page.

This 71 message thread spans 3 pages: < < 71 ( 1 [2] 3 > >
