Netherlands: definitely Google and Google alone (85% or more).

Latest research says Ilse down to 7% (from 8), MSN up to 3% (from 2). 5% at most for all others (but 1-2% is more likely).

Important portals: startpagina.nl (plus doughters topic.pagina.nl), planet.nl.

I do and my profile says so, but this is off-topic ;-) You better suggest some Scandinavian SE if you know some ;-)

P.S. I do not list Google, MSN and Yahoo here. Those exist allover the world so I think this is not what you've been asking for Genny.

yaah exactly.I am unable to find any SE in Scotland.

there really isn't any specific search engine for scotland

without sounding rude, but that would be like having a different search engine for every county or state in the USA

simply aint gonna happen, unless it's a local portal, and they are so 2000 :)

Google UK is the best UK regional referrer I have. There are no real major Scottish-only search engines - they tend to be all UK national and most are powered by other engines (large ISPs mainly).

Consider UK wizz (http://www.ukwizz.com/)as well, who operate their own index of UK only sites.

If you are looking for Scottish only sites then I think you would need to look to Scottish directories with a search function, but I don't think there are any Scottish-only SE's (at least none of consequential traffic value).

Blackie, I'd say the Scandinavian market is a bit more diversified than that. You're not biased are you?

Somewhat old, but still a very good pointer:

Denmark [webmasterworld.com]
Sweden [webmasterworld.com]
Norway [webmasterworld.com]

Not biased at all... simply could not come up with those good links you did Rumbas.

Hehe, that's ok Blackie :)

These things change all the time. Take Enrio for example. Once we had Kvasir and SOL here in Denmark. Then Eniro bought them up and now we only have Eniro. It seems that a lot of mergers have been going on in most countries the last few years, but we do like these threads to come up once in a while and members post their stats/findings on the marketshares.

Good stuff folks, thanks.

Ireland:

Google
Yahoo
MSN

Only Irish search engine:
WhoisIreland.com

Everything else is a directory.

Yell and Thomson are directories more than search engines though and purely business listings.

I apologize if I misunderstand the question, but isn't the answer obvious? Google followed by Yahoo. Everyone else is so far behind these two that they aren't really worth mentioning.

Perhaps in those countries. But in Poland the main engines are WP and Onet (and google of course).

In Czech Republic Seznam is the big one.

If anyone puts all their eggs in the one proverbial bucket and that bucket gets kicked your ass would also get kicked from the boss!

Its a good idea to know what the engines are up to.

Search engines with their own searchbots:

Europe: seekport.com
Italy: iltrovatore.it
Czech Republic: seznam.cz
Denmark: soegning.dk
Russia: search.udm.net
France: voila.fr
UK: yell.com

yell has no bot?

Yell is more like a directory containing business listings, not really web search.

Mack.
