There is also the Gazeta.pl directory - I like the newspaper it belongs to, but the directory is "strange". Sometimes a destription can disappear at no reason at all. BTW one sgould be able to add an URL in a domain different than .pl to Onet, still they do not respond to e-mails, or at least the submission time is over five months ;-) That's the time I havent heard of them ;-) L.

Polish directories are big mistake, SEO in Poland is not known at all, i know a company that was sending large potions of spam to Polish SE like Onet.pl mostly, in time they got many calls from people that saw these spams and wanted to get high on some keywords. (They just found phones in ripe). I preffer adding to SE itself not to directory, best of them is onet, because you can get really high in no time and get lots of hits. Wp.pl directory has one very annoying (in the beggining) thing - called "klikohit" it's a system that ranks you by the frequency of hits to your page from them, if you get many clicks you get high if not you're not :). If someone needs some more information just gimme info, i'll be glad to help.

LukasS Hi and welcome to webmasterworld.com I have to disagree about onet.pl - they ignore URLs from within domains other than .pl! This is far from being a fair play policy, don't you think so?

msg:493686 | 7:43 am on May 7, 2003 (gmt 0) |
Well i think yes but there are few reasons for that first they want it to be polish SE, second more technical stuff is that their cache is so F***d up that they wouldn't handle more sites from other domains, and third it's mostly the fault of old inktomi engine which is not used to spam and has now to many sites to handle. And i think that the SE itself is set up to search with one-language dictionary.

LukasS, welcome to WebmasterWorld So we are talking about [wp.pl...] [interia.pl...] [onet.pl...] Lukas, ITC, doesn't use WP the szukay spider? It crawls my sites quite regularly, none of them .pl domains?

Wp uses spider from netsprint.pl (somekind of polish substitude of google), and they use their database too. This things are changing constantly now but i think that this spider that visits you is from szukacz.pl and i think they are involved in some way with netsprint.pl netsprint spider -> (193.219.28.155)netsprint5.icm.edu.pl last number in ip address is thesame as number in host Wp.pl spider -> (212.77.100.3)ohttp.wp-sa.pl Szukacz.pl spider -> (193.218.115.6)robot.szukacz.pl Onet.pl spider -> server.test.onet.pl (213.180.131.231) inktomi.search.onet.1 server.test.onet.pl (213.180.131.232) inktomi.search.onet.1 ip's can vary but you can set * for whole class C, and numbers in agent name range from 1 - 9. There are 8 robots, but only 3 of them are working, now 7 is indexing new pages, 8 is reindexing them, it changes some times (shown in example -> 1 was then indexing my pages). Onet.pl employee -> (213.180.128.145)proxy4.usr.onet.pl I think that is all there, i haven't seen interia.pl spider though i don't write nothing about it. Thanks for warm welcome. Greetz LukasS

Lukas, that's interesting. WP shows Inktomi and netsprint.pl as partners. Netsprint only shows .pl pages. So I thought Ink would provide international results. About szukaj: www.szukaj.com acts as a meta engine, right? So where do those international sites szukay regularly spiders show up?

Lukas - I disagree with you - if onet wants 2 b a Polish SE, they should include domains containing Polish contents and written in Polish even if they are a dot.com! As to their server - well, I agree ;-)

So seeing they only index .pl domains, don't their users go to other engines? I see the point for an engine to offer default searches for the local language (Polish), but restricting to domains? So where do Polish users go to search the www?

Heini - WP uses a check to insure the page listed in the directory is still alive, but with ni results ;-) I know one site that constantly returns the 404 code and WP check things it's still alive :-( And this stops my website from being number one for my keyword :-( Still, I strongly dislike onet and interia - especially the second one. They're really strange! Regards, L.

Heini - that's the problem - Polish users stick to WP or Onet and don't find other results. Well, some people use google, but they're a minority. That's why Polish companies are not interested in SEO services!

heini Depends on the kind of business and target audience. In case of our services the customers we are interested in find us via Google. There is one more curious thing - Polish internet users prefer Flash over HTML - no matter how slow it loads and how hard it's to navigate. Well, I generalize, but it's true! L.

@ITCameleon Well i didn't added that it's default check if the domain is in .pl if it is engine thinks it's polish site, another thing is that you can add site from another domain but only to their directory. SE is too stupid to see content and recognise it. @heini yeap you need domain in .pl (50$) or subdomain or regional domain (12$) if you want to be in polish SE and about a logs, well from my expierience and my friends here in my town i can tell you this: Onet.pl almost 22 mln hits per month Wp.pl around 15 mln hits per month Interia.pl around 2-3 no more than this... Best traffic comes from Onet.pl i had there over 300 sites and with my friends for few days (short period) we got 100.000 hits to our pages per day. Now it's more difficult to add to Onet, they got new staff and manager (because of spam), they rebuilt part of se and changed little behaviour of robots. And most important they are loging every site submited, i dunno if it's some script but you can easily get banned if you submit too much sites from one ip. Second if you have .pl domain best way to get into onet get a link from site that is in se (high posiotion) to you. And wait for robot. Robots are crawling within these periods: wednesday 10:00 pm - thursday 6.00 am friday 10.00 pm - monday 6.00 am (GMT +2) Sites crawled are checked (and banned) by Onet staff: monday all day friday all day heini n/p i give a little knowledge to this fantastic place! glad to be helpful.

Well well well - what a surprise. Is there anyone from onet.pl reading this forum? Or is it just coincidence? One of my pages are being looked at right now by someone from an onet IP! I believe right now this site will be the last to show up in onet ;-) Or I'll get a lifetime ban ;-) Greetings mr OnetGuy ;-)

Maybe it's not the best forum, but does anybody know how to teach Chinese robots read English in robots.txt? They don't obey and index and cache everything! Yuck!

Hi Guys I do business in Poland. What a joke it is on search Engines. Actually you can get your sites included in onet and wp, you just need to write to them. I am in travel and there is a never ending load of spam from just 2 or 3 companies who have figured out(not hard at all) that repeating your keywords a million times in the title will get you sometimes half a page of results. Actaully I get a lot of hits from onet and guess that it must be the number Polish SE 1.....right?
