Do you have to be registered company to buy a domain mnw msg:497971 9:27 pm on Oct 11, 2000 (gmt 0) I just learned that you need to be a registered French company to buy a .fr domain. While I'll trust that to be true, it raises an possible problem for one of my clients that I never even thought of. What other European countries have that requirement?

Most, I am afraid. By Oct 22 you will find the info right here on a per country basis. Until then: France, Germany, UK, Italy, Netherlands and all of the Scandinavian countries.
Notable exeptions: Ireland, Luxembourg, Switzerland.
Sorry. Keep in mind though, that dot-coms in the local language and with an url in French seems to work well in France. We'll have a lot more on that here in the coming months.

Actually, anybody can buy a co.uk address without being a registered company.
At least, I did :)

You are absolutely right. .co.uk requires no local presence, just .uk I'll try to cover all of the finer points in the threads per country, due to start on the 22nd. Thanks for reminding me.
