AOL now click-tracking its ODP data
...and trying to hide it

AOL is also now doing click-tracking, on the directory results that it gets from ODP. You can't tell just by running your mouse over the links. Run a search, view the page source, and go down to the part of the source that contains the site listings. You will see that the href address for the site gets redirected through AOL before going to the actual site. You can also see the Javascript that makes the URL of the site, instead of the redirect URL, appear when you mouse over it.

Looking at the page source, you can also tell that they are tracking what search you ran when you click on the "Show me more like this" link. Probably using that to help determine what subjects the categories contain information on.

They've been doing this for awhile. I figured everyone knew about it. I never thought about it being hidden since I use opera and it is all right there. Thanks for the tip.
