It is official, the Open Directory Project at Dmoz.org [dmoz.org] is now the worlds largest human powered site directory on the net. Officials announced that the ODP has 2 Million Websites [biz.yahoo.com]! They also announced that AskJeeves would begin using the ODP.

He he! That's quite something.

Anyone know what Yahoo's directory size is like in comparison?

Last figure I heard from Yahoo was an even 1million sites. That was earlier this spring. Looksmart is claiming 1.5 million sites.

Last info I have is from the end of July:

DMOZ approx 1.95 million.

Yahoo 1.79 million sites

DMOZ growing approx 3,444 sites per day

Yahoo growing at approx 528 sites per day

This graph (200k) [geocities.com] is maintained by a DMOZ editor.

NFFC, where did you find the Yahoo figure at?

From the graph and from here [geocities.com] and on the assumption that Dmoz editors would not overestimate the size of Yahoo.

I just did an altavista search for link:geniac/dmoz and this forum thread came up in the results.

Thanks for the mention! :) Glad to see somebody is getting some useful information from my Charts and find them useful enough to mention to somebody else; that's a nice ego boost. :)

Yes, I am an ODP editor.. just a normal one, no super-powers here, so don't get excited. I edit mostly Australia-related categories.
I will start popping into the Directories forum here every now and then to see if I can help answer any questions.

Last I checked Yahoo was saying they had a little over 760,000 sites indexed. This was reviewed sites.
