ODP Public Forum Down
...or is it just me?

It appears that A Public Forum Sponsored and Moderated by ODP Editors is not up and about this morning. Or is there something wrong in my neck of the woods?

It'll be down for at least a day -- and possibly longer.

The warning notice on the site was fairly pessimistic about how long the site reorganization would take.

When I tried it this morning, there wasn't even a message. I just got timed out.

I think I saw the warning message saying from the 7th (today) of dec it could be down 1 day or 1 year (or was it 4)? Anyway I think it was a joke - would wait 1 day to a week before worrying.

It wasn't pessimistic; it was vague.

The initial announcement actually said 1 day to 1 month because we weren't sure how long it would be down at that point (I could have waited until we were sure but then you would have had virtually no notice). That was amended yesterday to say that it would be 1-2 days. It's expected to be back up by late on Wednesday at the latest, barring any unexpected problems.

Todays version says

This is a huge undertaking so expected time to re-opening is December 8, 2004. If any further delays are encountered I will update this page.

Never worked out myself why posters go there for public humiliation ;)

Two questions
1. Is there any update on when it will be back up.
2. Do I have to wait six months before asking this question again?;)

Nope. But since AFAIK this site is run by the top elite of ODP editors, I'm sure they can work this out. The ODP won't totally collapse if this site is down for a few days.

Sorry but that's not something you can ask on Resource
Zone, it's off topic. If you want to ask about your site please follow the guidelines.

2. Do I have to wait six months before asking this question again?

No you can ask again after 30 days, provided you have not submitted your site again.

Just kidding .....

And ODP itself is up, Resource Zone being down will not affect sites being reviewed, in fact maybe more will get reviewed, since editors won't be answering questions in RZ.

Give me a break. There's nothing "elite" about anyone who runs the R-Z. R-Z is run by a few meta editor's who decided to chip in to buy the license for the forum software. It's hosted for free by someone who was generous enough to denote the server space. The server is being moved, and we all know how that goes. Sometimes it goes smoothly, and sometimes it doesn't. Originally we thought it was going to be down for a few months, and then that was revised to a few days. I don't think anyone is going to die if the site is down for a week or so :)

When you tell someone you will do something by a certain time, and you can't get it done in time, you let them know. How hard would it be to change the message, which still says

I ran into a personality conflict of sorts and have been doing some joeant stuff since. I actually am considering reapplying which I am sure should make some people laugh.

Apparently the delays have been keeping him busy enough that he wasn't able to. What is the big deal? People were warned that the outage could be as long as a month. Any other information or estimates are a bonus.

On the seventh when it said it would be the 8th, that could be considered a bonus. When it said it on the 12th, not so much.
But thankfully, it is a bonus once again.
