Need advise on starting multiple directories Which structure is best? Drum msg:470293 5:02 pm on Mar 17, 2004 (gmt 0) I want to start a small business that offers directories for niche products and services based on cities. (Yes I know, a lot of people are doing this already)
These niche companies hopefully will pay me a minimal fee to list them in my directory (contingent on getting place high in the SERPS)
I am thinking of doing this two ways: 1. Purchase individual domains, or 2. Use sub-domains based on the city.
Structure 1: Denver-widget-directory.com, Miami-widget-directory.com, etc.
Structure 2: Denver.widget-directory.com, Miami.widget-directory.com, etc.
Of course structure 2 is a lot cheaper, but does it have drawbacks?
I am new at this so all comments welcome!

If you believe that, you must set up these directories ;-)
Keep in mind that, no matter which structure you use, we live in 2004 now and the least you can say is that your idea is not innovative.

You will have better luck getting listed in directories with unique domains. Be sure you donít cross link the sites as well. The way you want to do it will not be accepted by some directories unless the content is totally unique and can be considered an asset to the topic. In my opinion its probably a waste of time since itís an old idea done extensively already. Drum msg:470296 11:49 pm on Mar 17, 2004 (gmt 0)
You guys are probably right, especially today with Google coming out with the Local Directory beta thing.
