The old prevailing wisdom: One of the more important aspects of promoting a new site is getting listed in directories - specifically Yahoo, Looksmart, and DMOZ.

Is this still true today? If so, which directories have given you the best ROI?

ROI is always different for different folks and needs. Some traffic may be residual or direct from various directories listed.

We really do need a big red message on the "new thread" box, asking people to reactivate recent threads with the same topic rather than starting new ones.

Five threads on the same topic in the space of 50 threads (1975 -- 2025) in the same forum.
