From what i can tell, Zeal.com is a part of the LookSmart network so whomever uses looksmart directories would be showing anything managed through zeal potentially (depending on if it is only sponsored sites or general link directories)
The one thing i like about zeal is that it is FAST to get inclusion and friendly responses.
They don't deny your url after waiting 6 months, they just take the 30 seconds to correct anything that may be missing and tell you WHAT they corrected and WHY.
I hope Dmoz will learn from something like that.

Yes, the Looksmart directory comes from the Zeal directory.
Here's where Looksmart says their results are listed:
This might just be for paid listing. I'm not sure.

msn also uses zeal... one of the most important reasons to use zeal... msn still gets a good amount of traffic..

I just did some MSN searches and saw LookSmart / Zeal commercial and non-commercial listings results, again. Just like before, they were below the sponsored sites, and above the regular results for some of my site's search phrases. I clicked the "About" link next to the top of the directory results and followed the links to the LookSmart submission page. This time around there was no mention of any date that MSN intends to stop using the LookSmart directory results.
Well, it looks like MSN has changed its mind and reinstated LookSmart directory results. I wonder how long this will last?
It just occured to me that what I just saw may have been a glitch. So, would some of you please check at MSN to see if you also see the LookSmart results.

A couple of days ago a few of my site's most important search phrases were coming up on MSN in the directory results section of their SERPs, due to the fact that my site is listed in Zeal. Now only one does so. I can't figure out what MSN is doing with its use of Zeal based data.
Would anyone with any insights or comments on this subject please contribute.

Now I can't see any Zeal based directory results in any MSN SERPs for my site's search phrases. This is really confusing.
Any insights or comments would be really helpful.

This has been going on like this since MSN "officially" stopped doing business with Looksmart and its Zeal directory. Although, MSN has the right to continual use of the Zeal directory content that was posted as of January 15, 2004.
So, every few days, MSN switches the directory on, then after a couple of days, turns it off. It's anyone's guess as to why MSN is doing this, maybe they don't even know. :)
