alexa and dmoz
Most Popular In (whatever)

I have two parts of my site listed in different parts of the dmoz. when i go to the catagory my site is in in alexa, one of my sites is at the top (let's call this site site A). the other (which we shall call site B) isn't anywhere close to the top. i can't figure out why this is.

let's say my traffic rank for my domain is 100,000. i get this same traffic rank when i try to look up the traffic rank for site A or site B.

now, as i said, site A is listed as the most popular site for one catagory. two sites below that is a site who's traffic ranking is, say, 1,000.

so... why would my site be listed as getting more visitors than this other site?

additionally, site B is listed nowhere near the top. again, the traffic rank for this site is 100,000. the traffic rank of the top site is, lets say, 350,000.

so, obviously traffic rank has no bearing on how popular your site is - atleast according to alexa's dmoz archive. so... what does effect popularity?
