I haven't bothered checking for traffic on my sites recently, every time I think, perhaps something will change, it doesn't. :) Their algo is good, the db isnt' bad, if only they would 1) update regular 2) get a few more servers so we don't get that, "overloaded, please try again" 3) fix the speed - it's slow as dirt!, then we might have something. If it worked faster, I'd actually use it, but when you are used to getting results at the speed of Google - it's just too much of a stretch to want to wait 1 minute or more to get your results returned to you. Anybody else getting spidered?

Wisenut has been very busy for the last couple of days here too. Almost as busy as it was for all of February. >>if only they would Maybe this is a first step to fix a third of those problems.

I also see the bot coming around for a couple of days. When is it supposed to update and where can I check that? It's our first time to deal with wisenut/looksmart. How many visits - in relation to google-yahoo will this possibly drive...?

WiseNut search engine - [wisenut.com...] Zyborg is the spider - however, as far as I can recall, there have only been 3 updates to their searchable database since taking the 'beta' off their site, in Sept. of 2001. Traffic wise, expect a few clicks at most, but don't hold your breath if they don't drive anything. If you rank well on the others, Google, INK, Teoma, then you shouldn't have any problems getting to the top in their db. Hope that helps. :) With WiseNut, it's a sort of fun let's see if they actually do something here, they have a good start thing. Though, as time passes, they are much less likely to become a player the longer they are there & doing nothing. :(

The bot is definitely out in force. But 1,000 pages today is nothing. The bot is pulling down 2-4,000 per hour on my main site. This may have something to do with Wisenut having "big plans" as per the new VP of Search - see other threads.

I've also noticed wisenutbot crawling my pages a lot recently, does anyone have an idea of when the index will be updated?

Also have had Wisebot crawling across a number of my websites and very deeply as well. It will be interesting to see what they do with the info, as to do date I get very little traffic from them.

At the bottom of their homepage, I read: "© 2002 LookSmart, Ltd. All rights reserved" Doesn't that say it all? (I mean the date)

At SES, they were saying its gonna start crawling more regularly, updating the index and hopefully becoming a better engine.

If they developed a real index then they would be an ideal candidate for MSN who may not want to use Google or Inktomi as their index, and IMHO Looksmart is a good buy for MSN.

I am interested in Wisenut, and would like to find out more. I have often received an error message: The page cannot be displayed Error Type: Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A004C) Path not found /index.html, line 14

I just recently linked a PR6 to a new portal site I've been working on... and from that site linked to several other new sites I've made. Not only did wisenut's bot find them all, it found them before Google's freshbot. I was very surprised to say the least.

We're definitely getting more traffic, & most of it is well qualified. If Looksmart/Wisenut can overcome their reputation of poor, slow results, looks like they could be a contender.

I've been seeing Zyborg for a few days now. But it doesn't seem to understand the robots.txt file as well as Googlebot. Specifically it looks in a disallowed directory which contains a junk file for spambots. It's their loss, but I've been thinking of writing to them.

I'd just like to say that folowing my post above, I've heard from Zyborg and the fault was partly mine, but they've done a lot to understand it and reassure me. So thanks are to due to Looksmart for being so responsive and to Brett for providing a forum where this can happen. I'm a happy bunny now.
