As of a few hours ago, the co-branded NBCi searches were working, but straight NBCi was GoTo.

In Italian we have a "motto":
"tutte le strade portano a Roma"
(All paths lead to Rome)
New era, new Empire:
All SearchEngines lead to GoTo

1. Make sure you have a backup of all data stored on www.nbci.com (such as your web site and shared files), as well as on Xoom.com and SNAP.com. Such a backup should be stored on your hard drive, on floppy disks or other web site hosting providers, but not on NBCi.
2.Begin evaluating alternative web site hosting providers. We recommend that you plan to have your site and shared files hosted by a different provider as soon as possible and before July 15th. NBCi has made arrangements with Homestead.com for web page hosting and XDrive.com for file storage to help make the transition a smooth one.

Tutte le SearchEngines portano a GoTo... would that work? Or is there actually an Italian word for Search Engine?
I took Italian in college... I'm sure if someone wanted to rent me a nice coastal villa somewhere in Italy, it would all come back to me very quickly! ;)

>All SearchEngines lead to GoTo
For a while, but without the constant promotion they had when they were trying to break into the portal class they quickly fade from the public eye. How often do you hear Go.com or Snap.com mentioned now? Press? Nonexistent. No, my guess is that they rapidly deteriorate into a gigantic GoTo affiliate site -fifth tier SE traffic, if that.

>Tutte le SearchEngines portano a GoTo
Yes there is an Italian word.
"Motori di ricerca"
Tutti i motori di ricerca portano a GoTo.
In fact the name of the best site (in Italian) on search engine optimization is:
(But I am looking for news here..)

Thanks angiolo :) Or rather, grazie.

I think we should rename GoTo:
one year ago GoTo: we power results
GoTo: the Elephants cemetery or
GoTo: we bury search engines

This can't be all bad, can it?
When I checked yesterday I have gone from total obscurity to first place with three sites. The Top 99 site ranks NBCI at 5th place worldwide, so that's a lot of click thru's - I'm very happy. :-)
| 9:34 pm on Jul 3, 2001 (gmt 0)|
Top 99 quit ranking in March, [top9.com...] and NBCi was definitely coming up from behind then. They've dropped precipitously since. So they won't be powering as many clicks as you'd expect. But, you're correct, if you're bidding GoTo you now have another chance of being presented in a SERP.

But you can still submit your site to NBCi via
Search & Find .. Submit a Site link at the bottom. Where are all the submissions going to? Some form of blackhole?

>>>Where are all the submissions going to? Some form of blackhole?
Nah, just to "some form of black market" :)

Was there any info on redirects? Is all our traffic going to just 404. ?
| 3:51 pm on Jul 5, 2001 (gmt 0)|
I just wonder if there is any Online Advertising Dictionary, as I often encounter problems with terms like ROI, etc. I hope it won't take you long to drop me a line with the above-mentioned link.
Thank you in advance

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Yuri_Baranov
Our Website Advertising forum deals with that topic:
You'll find definitions included in the forum charter. The link to it is on the left, right above where the posts start.

I would like to thank Webmaster World and members for posting this info. I have a lot of files/pages at Nbci and they have not made me aware of this situation. As you know, they have posted a page about this, but they have not directed anyone to it as far as I can see.
I am not very happy about losing the traffic that I have built up. I would like to post a complaint that nbci owes its members an opportunity to post html with redirects. Non graphical redirects would not take up much space and they could make amens with their members who put Xoom and Snap on the map.

I have been very interested in this July 15 deadline. What baffles me is that the page from nbci listed above "http://www.nbci.com/LMOID/resource/0,566,-5605,00.html"
has not been pointed to anywhere on the members pages from nbci. I have been looking all through their members' menus and I can't find a single link. Nor have I been notified through my registered nbci members email addresses. How the heck did you ever find it Mike??
Also, nbci is still taking new members. A friend I was discussing this with told me that she had just recieved an email from nbci asking her to utilize their free web space offering. I have asked her to forward the letter to see if I can make sense of it. Hopefully, she still has it. Maybe someone else has heard of this circulation.
I am in the process of moving my large site elsewhere, as I have been aware for some time that trouble is abrewing at nbci.
Any info would be appreciated.

Boy they really are hurting. I just searched under the term, computer Games. Here is the results I got:
Sorry, no matching pages were found.
We were unable to find any pages matching your query.
Please try again with some other search terms.
You might try using fewer terms or being less specific.
Yikes! I then searched under just games, and I got Goto results. *shakes his head*
Vacor I have three different web hosts. Some of them are very low cost. I avoid free web hosting like it's the plague. Some of my sites don't make a penny, and doubt they will for a long time but I would still not put them on a free host. Just my preference.

Dear Legster, Tell me who are you very low cost providers firstname.lastname@example.org. Yes, I agree, Free sites are a gamble on many levels. Thanks in advance. V

well guys, all I can say is this... If I'm soon to be out of the job due to GoTo, then I'm going to have to buy myself at least two technics 1210 desks, and I'm going to start DJing again. The future is in Techno Music my friends!
