WebCrawler's Index

 7:50 pm on Sep 27, 2000 (gmt 0)

Just an FYI.
From: I-Search Digest #259 - Detlev Johnson

"Thanks for contacting Excite.

The WebCrawler index is much smaller than the Excite index and can
not index as many sites. Due to the limited capacity, we are not
adding new sites to Webcrawler at this time.

Best Regards,

I've heard they are slowly going to 'morph' Webcrawler into just a Excite mirror over the next year.

I heard from a friend that Webcrawler traffic to many of his site just went up BIG TIME.

These were old sites / old pages that he didn't even remember were up there.
He can't even remember the password to get in one affiliate program to see if the hits are converting.

That letter could have been written a year ago! I've been saying for months that I'm waiting for someone to smell rotting flesh over there and discover an office full of dead bodies! :-)

What a great job, can you imagine being head of development at webcrawler, it makes a co-pilots job look hard.

We have been fortunate enough to be stuck at the exact same position (#2) under a pretty fair'ish top (70-100?) keyword for over a year (a year ago last month). It has consistently produced a couple hundred hits a day for the entire year. The beauty of it is all those meta searches that pull from #1 and #2. How we got there was just luck of the draw. Course, it is se promotion, you may your own luck just by being out there - sooner or later you'll stumbled into something like that.
