Wotbox (www.wotbox.com) is an independent Search Engine that over the last year has developed a strong following on the web. Mainly known for its advanced geo-targeting technology, Wotbox displays a flag of the country of origin next to each result on its search pages. It also offers many other advanced features including allowing users to zone in and search only in their chosen country.

...

The new country-specific Wotbox sites are for:

Australia - [wotbox.com.au...]
Canada - [ca.wotbox.com...]
France - [fr.wotbox.com...]
Germany - [wotbox.de...]
Italy - [wotbox.it...]
New Zealand - [wotbox.co.nz...]
Spain - [es.wotbox.com...]
United States - [wotbox.us...]

Obviously it is good to see more start up search engines, but with under 1m pages in the UK index it doesn't look like a real player yet. There are just 17m in the global index; I would have thought that it would be possible to get that many in just the UK.

OTOH, perhaps they have perfected the art of removing junk pages...?

Seems to be based in part on the Dmoz float with some IP based website>country pairing. All IPs for the country sites point back to the same UK IP. Still though it is very light on the UK index. Some of the SERPs seem a bit dated as if the SE was on its first spider run. Still it is a rather ambitious undertaking. Though the fact that it has to issue a press release to attain some form of prominence is worrying.

They seem to be crawling my site, this month and presumeably previously as some of my pages are already in their index.
