PWS vs Apache server?
I need some opinions....

I currently have PWS running on Windows ME, and am unable to get PHP running on it. I have scoured forums, websites, and FAQ's, but still no joy. (Yes, I've done that, yup, done that too...that part works, it's only when I try it from the browser ...)

On one forum, I found a note which said (paraphrased) PWS is a pain, get an apache server, etc. This particular note was dated in the year 2000. I'm looking for a more current opinion.

The website that I plan to use PHP on is an apache server, supports PHP and MySQL. I was looking to get PHP running up on my PC only as a test space.

So, I'm looking for a more updated opinion on which server would be best for me to play w/ PHP?

Go with Apache!

I have it running on win98 box with no problems at all, and adding PHP was a snap!

Just do a site search on running Apache with windows for more info.

I think your best bet lioness would be to get apache running on your home pc anyway. You can then configure it to mimic your live environment. This may be very helpful when putting your scripts live.

I, personally, put no stock in PWS. Apache is the way to go.

dhdweb and jatar_k,

Thanks for your input. I went to:
[webmasterworld.com...] and found that ukgimp recommended firepages.com.au. Ten minutes and 2 tries later (I had to turn off my PWS server in order to get the install working correctly), I am off and running. Woo-hoo! I am such a happy girl right now...

Thank you again.
